Principal's Message

My name is Brian Chiasson and I’m proud to serve as Principal of Rockcliffe Park Public School. I am of Acadian descent and I just finished my first full year as Principal at our school. I’ve been an educator with the OCDSB for 25 years now, serving five different school communities, each representing the breadth and depth of Ottawa’s identity in its own special way. I strongly believe that my personal and professional backgrounds will contribute to the established culture and heritage of our school.

RPPS is a busy and vibrant place - we offer an English stream program and an Early French Immersion program, as well as a multitude of extra-curricular opportunities including Calm & Stretch Club, Fibre Arts Club, Music Club, Newspaper Club, Grade 6 Leaders, and intramural sports, just to name a few. In the spring of the 2022-23 school year, we wrapped up a very successful centennial birthday celebration, with events ranging from a School Council-led high tea event to a Rockin’ Through the Ages talent performance. Needless to say, community spirit was at an all-time high throughout the events and it became clear to me that Rockcliffe Park pride runs deep!

This past November, I was fortunate to take part in my very first RPPS Book Fair experience. The planning committee worked diligently with RPPS parents, community partners and staff members to set the conditions for yet another wildly successful annual fundraiser. Year after year, this event serves as a means to bring the whole community together to promote the joy of reading. The Book Fair is our signature event, providing direct benefits to the students at Rockcliffe, as well as to the Education Foundation and a handful of other schools in our district. This year, it raised more than $58 500 (gross amount) for the School Council and it is our hope to surpass that amount this year. Thanks to these funds, we were able to benefit from a school-wide field trip and our Library Learning Commons was outfitted with new furniture to make it a more functional and dynamic space.

Please know that at RPPS we work hard to ensure that ALL Dragons have equitable access to authentic and innovative learning opportunities. We firmly believe that social and emotional well-being are directly connected to academic achievement. For the 2024-25 school year, I can assure you this will remain an area of focus for us as we continue to collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure your child reaches their full potential. We look forward to another year  of partnership and success with parent and community involvement, outdoor learning opportunities, Makerspace exploration and good old-fashioned field trips to enrich your child’s journey.

“Be kind, be brave, be a Dragon” is a well-known slogan that we work hard to instill in our students. I look forward to continuing working with you to ensure RPPS is a safe and respectful place for all who learn, work and play here.
